All stringers have at least one face or edge that should be kept absolutely intact - no sanding, planing, trimming. In the case of the deck stringers it's the upper, outward edge, which will form the deck line. If the stringer comes down to touch the seats, which it may do at around frames 7 or 8, then trim the bottom edge so that it can take up an even, natural, curve.”
